Offline Marketing for Mobile Purposes

I want to buy a new telephone. There is really nothing wrong with the one I have right now: it’s been dropped a couple of (ten) times and I once dropped it into Lake Union. It dried. It calls other phones, receives calls and text messages, and it fits nicely in pockets and purses. But it doesn’t do Internet, and that’s not acceptable. Too often, I’m away from my computer and I want to look something up online. Often, my desire to use the Internet is driven by offline marketing that is aimed at Internet users.

Being a developer, I tend to be drawn to the sessions here at PubCon that have more of a product creation and development  feel.  The search marketing sessions are good too, and I often attend them over the entry-level developer sessions, but when I go to a session I try to take away products and ideas that make me a better developer.

This fact is not lost on any country with a mobile network and Canada is no exception. Unfortunately for Canadians we are being suffocated by mobile data rates that are exceedingly more expensive than even a third world country like Rwanda. Unless our data rates come down you can bet that Canada will be left in the dust while the world of mobile commerce skyrockets.
