Last week, Google started showing Google profiles at the bottom of U.S. search results. This caused quite a stir among the search marketing industry and a flurry of blog posts have been written about it. As with any topic there are varying opinions on the profiles. Some feel that it is a great way to brand yourself, while others feel that Google is a bully trying to force us to hand over our personal information.

Michael Jenson from Solo SEO recently emailed me about a cool new free SEO tool he created called Index Rank. After seeing my post about Google date based filters, Michael created the Index Rank tool, which allows you to see the growth of a site’s profile in Google based on the number of pages indexed over different periods of time. The tool also allows you to compare multiple sites against each other.

I am not sure if many readers here know about it, but this site has profile pages. Here is my profile, for example.
A few updates worth making:
allow you to insert your RSS feed of your blog on the page
track all comments from a userallow adding additional widgets / gadgets to profile pageslayout improvements, but I am not sure how as of yet

So yesterday I claimed my profile at Spock, I was sitting at #4 or #5. Today I’ve dropped to page 12. If you are running a social search engine who’s success is tied to ego searching and navel grazing, don’t penalize me for doing what you want …
