Windows 7 Public Beta Launch, and The Trouble With Too Much Traffic

Update 1: Microsoft has now pulled the public beta, and several people that managed to start a download have had the download killed. They have now replaced the text on Technet to “Windows® 7 Beta coming soon!”. This just keeps getting better, I’ve only spent 2.5 hours trying to sign up and start this download and all the MS pages associated with the download now return 404 errors.

The Launch of Private Messaging on SEOmoz

Today I’m pleased to announce the release of Private Messaging here at SEOmoz.  Starting now, you’ll be able to private message other users using the sexy “Private Message This User” button (pictured on the right) on their profile page.  You’re also able to compose a message without clicking the button at the Write a Message page.  Just start typing in the username of the person you’re trying to message and the right person should come up automagically.

Should I Launch My Website With an Affiliate Program?

Question: I am new to the market and have a product I am going to launch soon at a similar price-point to SEO Book. I am wondering if I should launch with an affiliate program, and if it will provide a substantial return prior to

Answer: I would say off the start don’t enable an affiliate program until you have a better feel for the amount of effort required per purchaser and have brand awareness. I like launching without an affiliate program because it makes citations appear more natural. If you are launching a MLM hype program then a multi tiered affiliate program is a must, but if not the best option is to wait until you better learn your market and are well integrated into your market.
