Sorry for my noted absence lately. Last weekend I went up to Vancouver, BC, for fun times to be had, gained roughly 20 lbs from gorging at two seriously awesome restaurants, drove back down to Seattle, and promptly got picked up by Rand so we could drive further down to Portland for SEMpdx’s Searchfest 2008. The Great Google Data Grab of 2007

If your Google AdWords quality score is too low, Google will allow you to compete in the auction with reasonable ad pricing ONLY if you give them your conversion data:

The arguement from my representative was that your pages are terrible so if we can’t see how well you convert our users then we will need you to pay $10.00 per click to make up for your low QS (my average keyword price was $2.75 at the time). That of course would have put me out of business.

An Open Challenge: Applying Jim Collins’ Good to Great - Asking the Tough Questions

Let me just preface this post by saying that I hate management books, business theory books, success coaching and nearly everything that starts with the phrase “The XYZ Habits of Highly Effective…” That said, I got so many recommendations to read Jim Collins’ book, Good to Great, that I couldn’t resist. In particular, two people that I trust intensely - Gillian and Avinash Kaushik - said that they too, had a distaste for management theory diatribes, but loved this one. And now that I’ve finished it, I find myself thinking about it almost daily.
